The Rappahannock Regional Solid Waste Management Board (R-Board) is proud to announce the completion of a new cell at its Regional Landfill. This $8.5 million investment enhances service for City of Fredericksburg and Stafford County residents. As the landfill expands, the R-Board encourages the community to reduce, reuse, and recycle, helping to conserve the limited space available.
Designed as an engineered system with a strong emphasis on environmental protection, the landfill’s development is carefully managed by the R-Board. New cells are built when existing ones reach capacity, each featuring a specialized liner that shields the surrounding environment and groundwater. The latest cell, with an estimated lifespan of approximately 4.5 years, exemplifies this commitment to safety and sustainable growth.
In addition to expanding landfill capacity, the R-Board is dedicated to promoting recycling as an eco-friendly alternative to landfilling waste. Recycling services—including plastic bag, textile, single-stream, and electronics recycling—are offered at no cost to residents, along with educational programs on further reducing waste.
Financed entirely by user fees and operating without tax funding, the landfill represents a sustainable model of community service. For more information, please visit www.r-board.org/recycling.
