History

The R-Board was formed in 1987 as a joint venture between the governments of Stafford County and Fredricksburg.  Our continuing mission has been to provide professional, courteous, and intelligent solutions to the waste disposal needs of their residents.

Landfill Geology

The area where the Regional Landfill lies is covered with deposits from the Cretaceous Period (65 to 144 million years ago) when the area was covered by the sea.  Fossils of invertebrates from this period have been found at the site.  These sediments became limestone which was covered with sand and clay from the Potomac River during the Tertiary Period (2 to 65 million years ago).
