Protecting the environment is an important part of our daily business. The Regional Landfill is an Exemplary Environmental Enterprise (E3), certified through the Virginia Environmental Excellence Program (VEEP) and is striving for E4 certification. VEEP is a voluntary initiative for businesses in Virginia, administered by the VA Department of Environmental Quality that requires efforts above and beyond the applicable environmental regulations. The Regional Landfill achieved E2 status in 2004 and was recognized for E3 at the September 19, 2007 meeting of the R-Board.
The Regional Landfill is one of only three landfills in Virginia that has accomplished E3. In order to be accepted as exemplary environmental enterprise, a facility must have a good compliance history, a fully-implemented environmental management system and pollution prevention program in place with demonstrated performance. R- Board staff is currently working on E4 certification.
In addition to being good stewards of the environment, the R-Board will see a significant reduction in permit fees and more personal attention from the VA Department of Environmental Quality staff. Click HERE for the R-Board’s Environmental Policy.
